Summer Cycling Program
PEAC’s summer cycling program is structured to help individuals with disabilities identify and achieve their cycling goals. To accomplish these goals, we have developed training techniques that have proven to be successful year after year. Each summer close to 200 students (primarily children with some type of disability) enroll in PEAC’s summer program. Despite initial fears and concerns (often from parents), PEAC’s students have been able to achieve great success in developing their cycling skills. Individuals with disabilities can not only share in the joy of riding, but the health and social benefits of cycling can continue to reward them throughout their entire lives.
PEAC works with individuals of all abilities. We believe that with the proper support, accommodations and training everyone can enjoy cycling. Each student’s skills are assessed individually and classes are structured to meet the needs of all students. One-hour sessions are held once or twice a week, depending on local site funding, for seven weeks during the summer. We offer classes at six sites in southeastern Michigan:
- Ann Arbor: Mondays and Wednesdays
- Ann Arbor: Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Detroit: Thursdays
- Plymouth: Tuesdays
- Saline: Mondays and Wednesdays
- Taylor: Wednesdays
